113. On Replay.
The moments we wish we could relive forever, and ever. Those little instances we feel that we are alive, or those that we wish we could change, to alter the course that has been given to us. These are tools of our past meant to keep us in hopes of correction for our future, but unfortunately, we use them to wallow, and fill ourselves with self-regret. Ashamed of what we have done, depressed from the past, or stuck in a better time, we never truly move forward with our lives until our minds stop replaying the same few moments in verbatim. We are the ones that must change and learn, and these are not the tools that we must use. Forget these, they are of no use to you. The only way to recover, is to move forward.
112. On Technology.
This piece is birthed from my frustration. Frustration with technology and the harmful effects it leaves in it’s wake after it fails on you. Memories wasted, time corrupted, and contacts lost. We depend so deeply on these pieces of machinery to do our bidding, and when one is lost, it is almost unbearable. As if our lives stop every moment we are not “in the loop”. All our friends and family disappear at the drop of a dime, or the loss of a call. We are at our wits end. Frustration ensues. But is this really what we need? A life connected into technology? I fall victim to this harsh reality that technology is not my world. It is not our world. We are separate from it, and we can survive without it. We do not need it to stand on. We are our own people, and we are responsible. So do not let technology tell you that you are dependent, we are independent, and free.
111. On That Night.
The one you will always remember, and the one that you will cherish for a lifetime. The one where you experienced something like no other, and will always look back on fondly. Friends, good times, and adventures will be told in story from these experiences for the rest of your life, and the people of these memories are always looked back on with longing and love. There is always those nights in our lives if we choose to take part in them. The truth about this fact is that many of us get too wrapped up in our lives to partake in the things that are really something memorable. Will you choose to break your cycle to become part of life?
110. On Remembering.
Creatures of knowledge, creatures of brains, and creatures of memory. All before us, all behind us, and all stored away are the distant experiences of our lives. Remember what we have done, thought of, and dreamed of. This is our life, this is our start, and our finish. We are tourists in life and the only things we can keep are those than can stay in our hearts and minds. Our minds are far too complex to wrap science, philosophy, or humanities around it. There is one thing that is much more important than all of our memories put together though, and it is something we must keep. This is no secret, no ploy, no trick played on our minds. But we must remember the one that loves us most.
109. On Weddings.
The blushing bride, makes her way from the dark recesses of the room, and I, standing before the alter, gap at the wonder that is the woman that I love. Words cannot describe the feelings, love, lust, nervousness, but prepared. Two become one, with all the witness in the world watching. Beyond the physical and material preparations of this ceremony lie a deeper meaning of the pure unadulterated love of the two. Never before has this woman looked more beautiful, this night, this hour, she has looks unparalleled on her special day. This is one of the most beautiful aspects that we as humans can ever see.
108. On Gratitude.
One can never express this, as we all say at some point in the most cliché of ways. There is never truly enough thankfulness and adoration to each other in this day and age, and I am a firm believer in this. We are selfish creatures, people who bide our time sitting in our own self. We eat what we want, go where we want, and do what we want. But to what avail? We can never understand what it is to be thankful if we have never experienced this comfort out of our own skin. This is the way that we life, and the unfortunate truth behind many of our motivations. Thankfulness and gratitude are those that drive us to perfection, and the perfection that He has set before us in years past. Step out of your own skin, and find the words to be able to truly thank someone for their contribution to your life.
107. On Fatigue.
We are told as children, try as hard as you can, try to achieve. We are creatures of progress, growing more and more through the tribulations we attribute to our character. But always being pushed forward, and placed at the feet of failure to ensure our strong will to get us through. Fatigue happens to all of us. It consumes our minds and plagues our thoughts with ideas of failure, false egos, and lack of will to pursue on. But we are always told in these times to strive on, and that is what must motivate us, giving a little bit more than we believe we can. There is never an end to this, and we are limitless in spirit and demand, but we must persevere because we are asked to. Never get fatigued because there is always something that you will be able to provide, even the smallest amount.
106. On Nostalgia.
Reliving the past shows you where you have come from. A simple and almost obvious phrase, but not when you look into depth at what it truly means. You’ve grown so much, good or bad, over the years, you have had experience, you have had adventure, tears, joy, and bitter fights. But through all of these you have grown. Our bodies are road-worn and we are becoming more comfortable in our skin. Blood, sweat, scraps, bruises and broken bones from the past allow us to look forward with so much dignity on where we are going. Even if we are going into the unknown. We must never forget these things, but never dwell in them. Too many souls have been lost in the flood of the past. Our beautiful origins are a key to our success, no matter how dark or illustrious.
105. On Alone.
The lone wolf, as they call him. The most desperate of phrases. Who is truly alone? No one. There is not a single person in this world that is truly alone, and it is absolutely false to attempt to prove so. Even in the most remote areas of the world, you have someone. The deserts, the forests, the plains, there is someone beside you. To deny the existence of everything and everyone around you is to be absolutely ignorant. Because even if the physical manifestation is not with you, we know who is there is spirit, and in your heart. No one can be above this, or to break the bonds of kinship amongst one another. No one is able to break the bonds of the one watching over us, as much as we may try. Not a single person is alone. Ever. Let us take comfort in those words.
104. On Receiving.
I was never too great at this, the art of gracefully accepting something, whether it be a physical manifestation of someone’s love, or love in general. My heart is hard and terrible to please. Until I met you I never understood what reception of love and satisfaction was. Until now my heart was closed to the opportunities of the world, to love and be loved. Compliments mean nothing when they are like drops of water on the feathers of a duck, rolling off soon to join the others in the lake below. You have changed me, and allowed me to feel once more. I am open to all, and see the wonders of this world and allow for me to accept, to receive, to weep for joy at the possibility of love and life coming my way. Captivated in the love I receive, I am a changed man, born to love, and be loved. |
